Who's who in our home?

Welcome to Avalon Nursing & dementia home. Below is a guide to our staff uniforms to help you identify who we are. If you have any queries or concerns speak to the Matron or the sister in charge in the first instance.

Registered Manager

Lynn Shingfield is the Senior Registered Manager and has been with Avalon since 1990. Lynn is registered with the NMC as well as CQC & is a member of the Royal College of Nursing. Lynn has a Diploma in Psychology, is a QCF assessor, has an IOSH certificate in ‘Managing Safely’ in 2023 & has a Diploma in Health Education. Lynn has also completed training with the NHS namely 'Compassionate leadership in Dementia care' Lynn is also a Mental Health First Aider (MHFA). Lynn commenced employment under the previous owners/providers & became the Registered Manager in February 2007. Lynn is responsible for the overall running of the home. Lynn has completed a Level 7 Diploma in Leadership and Management at the end of February 2020.

Registered Nurses

The home currently has 4 registered nurses that cover the night and day shifts.

Senior Care Staff

The Senior carers as well as the Junior care staff work hard to maintain the high standards of care within the home. Senior Care Staff will be conducting supervisions with Junior Care Staff and ensuring that the Moving and Handling and other Competencies for all Care staff are up to date and reflect the needs of our residents.

The home is lucky to have Senior Care Staff that are experienced and are able to assist the Junior members of the team with their roles and help them to grow into good care staff. We have 3 in-house Moving and Handling trainers and with Junior care staff we have Nutrition & Hydration champions, Dementia champions, Oral health champions and Dignity Champions.

Junior Care Staff

The Junior care staff are able to assist all the residents and their senior colleagues to ensure that the home runs smoothly.

Housekeeping Staff

Avalon also employs a wealth of other staff members to ensure the smooth running of the home. They include laundry, maintenance, housekeeping assistants and activity staff. Ably supervised by Helen Stredwick (Housekeeper).

Kitchen Staff

Helen Slade is a trained cook & commenced employment in July 1999 as a general helper for all areas but now concentrates on the kitchen serving up home cooked food. Helen heads a team of cooks and kitchen assistants. Helen continues to help us keep our '5' star Food Hygiene Rating for the past 5 inspections over a period of 8 years.
